District News Articles

With spring and summer comes construction season and a continuation of Platte Canyon’s efforts to repair, rehabilitate, and replace portions of the District’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The District anticipates expenditure of $258,946 for capital construction this year.
Two water main replacement projects are scheduled for construction in 2013. The proposed projects were initially scheduled for 2014 and 2021 but have been advanced due to continuing deterioration of the pipes and the occurrence of additional water breaks in 2012. Project CIP 13-1W proposes replacement of 325 feet of 4-inch cast iron pipe in S. Quay Ct. in the cul-de-sac located south of W. Hinsdale Pl. in the Columbine West Subdivision. The 39 year old cast iron pipe will be replaced with either 4-inch or 6-inch, C-900, class 150, PVC pipe. The estimated cost for the project is $76,507.
The second water replacement project scheduled for construction in 2013, CIP 13-2W, consists of replacing 775 feet of 6-inch cast iron pipe in S. Jay Dr. between W. Monticello Ave. and W. Elmhurst Dr. in the Columbine Hills Subdivision with 6-inch, C-900, class 150, PVC pipe. The existing 52 year old pipe has experienced four electrolysis breaks in the recent past. The estimated cost for this project is $182,439.
Bids for these two projects are expected to be accepted in late April with construction estimated to begin in early summer.
Additional updated information pertaining to the District’s 2013 capital improvement program will be posted on this website when available.
